Letter From Our Leadership

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Welcome to the Ethiopian Girls’ Bright Future Fund (EthioGBFF). As a U.S. tax-exempt IRC Section 501(c)(3) organization, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of young women from low-income families in remote areas of Ethiopia through higher education. Our mission, “Fueling Ambition, Igniting Hope,” drives us to provide financial assistance for educational materials and female hygiene supplies to university students from impoverished backgrounds. By doing so, we aim to break the cycle of poverty and empower these students to become leaders and change-makers in their communities, creating a ripple effect of positive change.

Our meticulously designed scholarship program targets female students from poor families in remote parts of Ethiopia who demonstrate exceptional academic potential. This program offers comprehensive support, including financial assistance for educational materials, hygiene supplies, transportation, and other expenses. Additionally, it provides mentorship, guidance, and regular monitoring and assessments to ensure the student’s academic success and personal growth.

Our scholarship program is not merely a handout but a testament to our recipients’ hard work and dedication. We implement a strict and transparent selection process to identify qualified female candidates from low-income families enrolled in public universities. Priority is given to those with strong academic performance from remote parts of Ethiopia. The scholarship continues until the participant completes their first degree for up to four years, ensuring that only our program’s most deserving and committed students benefit.

Your support, regardless of size, is invaluable. Your belief in these young girls’ potential fuels our mission and makes a significant difference in their lives. Together, we can help these deserving young girls break free from poverty and contribute to their communities, creating a brighter future for all.

Warm regards,

Amare Berhie, Executive President

Leading the Charge for Change

Amare Berhie, the visionary behind EthioGBFF, has a rich education and community development background. Growing up in a small Ethiopian village, Amare and his wife, Weyni Tekleab, were deeply influenced by their community’s emphasis on education. This upbringing instilled in them a profound sense of responsibility to give back and empower others. Their journey to the United States in 1981 strengthened their commitment to creating opportunities for those in need.

The genesis of EthioGBFF was marked by a pivotal moment: witnessing six promising students turned away due to financial limitations. This heartbreaking scene ignited a fire within Amare and Weyni, propelling them to act. In collaboration with Professor Dr. Melsew Tefera, they developed a comprehensive program to empower young girls from impoverished backgrounds to pursue their dreams.
